The year 2012 was fifty years since I have migrated to the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In this book I tell all about my involvement with the Caribbean Community and our contributions to Edmonton and Alberta as a whole, as seen through my eyes.
I have included a tabulated list of members of the Caribbean community in Edmonton who have died between 1978 and 2011, some of whom i knew and others whose names and dates of passing had been given to me.
This book focuses a lot on The Edmonton Caribbean cultural Association 'ECCA' which Mike Lancaster and nine others including myself, founded and incorporated in March 1978, after the then existing West Indian Society group folded. ECCA represented people from all the Caribbean Islands who resided in Edmonton at that time. We participated in all of the cities Social Cultural and Political activities.
The group Caribbean Perspective, founded by Selwyn Jocob in mid 1978. Between 1978 and 1980 this group produced 36 TV productions for the Capital Cable Television, the shows were about the Caribbean community in Edmonton, and also featured official government representatives from the various Caribbean Islands,as Guest Speakers.
This book Is intended to inform the younger generation of the Caribbean Community, as well as to enlighten new comers as to how we were involved in the Edmonton community and the Edmonton multicultural Mosaic.
Please feel free to inform me of any inaccuracies that you may encounter in the aforementioned.
